Hemp plants emerging in Pukekohe

The “Object” of the iHemp Regulations 2006, is stated as 

3 Object
The object of these regulations is to enable the cultivation and distribution
of industrial hemp under a licensing regime that ensures that other forms of
cannabis are not cultivated and distributed under the guise of industrial hemp

This gives us a protected industry based on sustainable production of low THC iHemp, what we need is the Government to enable us and support industry growth and development, rather than getting in the way of this new arable crop

We are not a drug crop and people need to be aware that industrial hemp cannabis is distinct from marijuana cannabis (high THC) and Medicinal Cannabis (Both psychoactive and non psychoactive drugs which will have their own regulatory frame work when the Medicinal Cannabis bill is past)

The Medicinal Cannabis Bill 

A bill proposed by Hon David Clark, Minister of Health should give the industry a new framework in which to purse the opportunities for low THC iHemp medicinal products.

Clearly when used as a medicine it is a drug which will need to be controlled by Medicine Control, as opposed to the arable seed and fiber crop which would be more suited to being controlled by MPI

The draft bill is available and public submissions have been requested by 21 March 2018

The Draft is restricted to just the terminal ill which does not allow access to the wide range of patients wanting to use these therapeutic medicines.
We encourage you to make a submission and give them feedback on what you think needs to be included so that patients, doctors and suppliers all know what to do.
