The progress of “The Misuse of Drugs (Medicinal Cannabis) Amendment Bill”, including history, reports and speeches and the debate can be found on the parliamentary website

The Government plans to set up a medicinal cannabis scheme within a year.  This will allow medicinal cannabis to be prescribed and supplied to a subset of potential patients who are eligible to receive palliative care.

An advisory panel, which should involve industry and overseas experts will set up the medicinal cannabis scheme within 12 months.  As part of this process a consultation document needs to be released by February or March for stakeholder comment.  This will give everyone the opportunity to comment.

MOH are listening to industry; the NZHIA and the Medicinal Cannabis Council are working with officials to ensure high and low THC forms of cannabis are included in the scheme and that it is workable for the entire supply chain.

Low THC Industrial hemp, is cannabis and has a high amount of various cannabinoids, terpennes, and flavoinoids, and very little of the psychoactive THC cannabinoid.

It is a great source of safe medicinal compounds which can be used as a whole plant extract where the synergistic reactions of the constituents of the whole plant work well together in what is refereed to as the entourage effect.

Or as a source for the extraction industry to supply individual isolates, such as the cannabinoid, CBD to the medicinal and commercial markets.
