The goal of the 3-month campaign is for the government to announce a review of our regulations to get us out of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 (MODA).
We are not a drug crop, we are just another arable and horticultural primary industry.
Our goal is to have a review of our regulations announced by early 2025 leading to a fully enabled iHemp industry outside of MODA by 2026 – this election cycle.
This can be done if we can harness the power of the Hemp Army to act, share and make first contact on behalf of iHemp.
If you are positive that industrial hemp (iHemp) is a no brainer, then you are already part of the coalition for hemp awareness. And if you are actively promoting hemp then you are part of the Hemp Army.
This campaign is all about encouraging YOU, the “Hemp Army” to take action, write to your MP, government, mayors, media, industry leaders and let them know about the iHemp industry and ask them what they are doing about it.
The campaign is over three months (Oct-Dec 2024) and follows three parts or themes, links to the three parts follow:
– Part 1: iHemp needs to get out of the (THC) Misuse of Drugs Act (1975) and (CBD) Medicines Act (1981)
– Part 2: iHemp regulations need to be reviewed to enable the industry and make them fit for purpose
– Part 3: We need a new industry for Aotearoa/New Zealand

iHemp presents many bio regional development opportunities for local employment across a range of sectors. Opportunities for investment to create resilient supply chains for products that can be made from iHemp, which can feed, clothe and house New Zealanders.
We are useful rotation crop and alternative land use for farmers, growers, and Iwi to use in their farming rotation iHemp can complement other primary industries, wool, forestry, sheep and beef, dairy, vegetables and the horticultural industry. And works across many industry sectors, all requiring innovation and tech, particularly in primary and secondary processing.

The value chain is immense, with many opportunities to add value and move up the supply chain. A new joined up industry from the farm to making fit-for-purpose “hemp products” for local and export markets .
