At NZHIA, everything we do is rooted in a belief that industrial hemp is the future. Our newly designed NZHIA tote bag isn’t just a practical item—it’s a conversation starter, a statement piece, and an artwork that reflects our kaupapa: making iHemp a part of everyday life.
A Design with Purpose
We set out to create a bag that does more than just carry your goods—it carries a message. That message is clear: industrial hemp is above all other material choices. Why?
- It’s low carbon
- It requires minimal irrigation
- It grows without sprays or chemicals
- It has a long lifespan
- And it leaves a gentle footprint on the earth
These are not just environmental benefits—they’re practical, scalable solutions to many of the sustainability challenges facing our industries and communities.
Not Cannabis—Not a Threat
A crucial part of our mahi is raising public awareness around the clear distinction between industrial hemp and cannabis. Despite sharing the same plant family, iHemp contains no psychoactive compounds and poses no danger to society, ecosystems, or people. On the contrary, it is a regenerative crop with benefits that far outweigh the misconceptions it still faces.
Local Artist, Natural Vision
To bring this design to life, we partnered with Bec Robertson, a local artist known for her organic, grounded work that draws from the natural world. Bec has beautifully captured the essence of the hemp plant in full bloom—complete with bees, symbolising nature’s harmony and interdependence.
You can explore more of Bec’s artwork at Turua Gallery.
Carry the Message
Whether you take it to the market, the office, or your local café, this tote bag invites curiosity and sparks conversation. It says: there’s a better way—and it starts with iHemp.
We believe it’s time to reframe hemp in the public mind—not as a fringe or niche product, but as a sustainable, everyday material with vast potential across food, textiles, construction, health and beyond.
This tote is more than a bag. It’s a movement in your hands.
